Increasing awareness and reducing stigma are both very important goals, however, we cannot just leave it at that.

We can talk all we want, but if the resources are inadequate to support people when they do seek help, we are setting people and their families up for even greater distress. 

Virtue signalling is the public expression of opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character or social conscience or the moral correctness of one's position on a particular issue.

Instead of the focus being on large companies, and encouraging people to donate to them--which ends up benefiting these billion-dollar companies in the form of advertising and tax breaks. 

When you donate money to a business (at the grocery checkout, for example), they collect all those dollars & donate them in their company's name, thus reaping significant benefits from claiming charitable donations on their corporate taxes. 

It's a lot more meaningful to work in earnest every day to reduce stigma and provide support to ourselves and each other, rather than making a relatively empty, showy gesture once a year. We need to put pressure on the governing bodies who under-fund social services programs, to show them we care about providing effective and properly resourced supports in our communities.
