Neurodiversity Manitoba describes ADHD symptoms in Kids: Children, Youth, and Teens

Disorganization

  • Trouble keeping things neat & organized.
  • Forgets to put things where they belong, then can't find them later. 

Rushing

  • Rushing through work when it feels boring.
  • Making mistakes on things they already know how to do.

Distractibility

  • Easily distracted.
  • Gets sidetracked when there are a lot of steps to remember.
  • Quickly becomes overstimulated in busy environments.

Passion

  • Voice gets loud when excited.
  • Interrupts people when they're talking.
  • Experiences intense emotions. 

Impulsivity

  • Self-control and self-regulation seem to lag behind that of peers. 
  • Behaves impulsively, then later regrets their actions. 
  • Shouts out in class, forgets to raise their hand.

Restlessness

  • Body doesn't like to be still.
  • Need to fidget and move.
  • Mind wanders, often seems "spaced out" or lost in their own thoughts. 

Impatience

  • Really hard time waiting for things, especially if they're very exciting
  • Feeling bored is almost painful.
  • Their brain and bodies are always needing something interesting to do.
