Many neurodivergent folks have co-occurring disorders or disabilities. Some may be hard of hearing or deaf, or minimally speaking or non-speaking. Sign language and other forms of alternative communication can benefit so many people.
A real-life example of what ableism and micro-aggressions look like in action. I am Deaf, neurodivergent, and female-presenting, so I have indeed experienced ableism, audism, and sexism.
Everything changes yet stays the same. It’s 2023. Nearly everyone is connected nearly all the time. Smart phones are ubiquitous, yet we still don’t have truly accessible public spaces.
Respect is important, but nice is overrated. Being nice is not more important than being thinking critically and calling out problematic behaviour. People’s feelings are not more important than social justice.

Sign Language is our culture and mode of communication, not a gimmick for clout. Sign language means accessibility. It means understanding and being understood. It’s not a cheap party trick, and it sure as hell isn’t for influencers to co-opt for attention and profit.
Sign language, AAC, and other accessible modes of communication aren't just for Deaf and non-speaking people. Not only is accessible communication a basic human right, it is also more convenient for everyone.
