I am neurodivergent, and also parent to an amazing neurodivergent child. In addition to my academic training and 20+ years of experience as a youth worker and mental health counsellor, I also have lived experience as a mother, and as an Autistic person with ADHD.
Parenting can be extremely difficult on the best of days. Parenting neurodivergent children can come with its own set of challenges, and our children have unique needs.
If you are new to this journey, or feel you have come to a point in your parenting relationship where you need some guidance, I can help.
I meet with individuals, parents, and families. I engage in a person-centred approach, learning about your family's unique needs and goals, and help you work toward them. I work with caregivers to develop a customized parenting plan, one that is realistic, practical, and easy to incorporate into everyday life.
I provide person-centred, neurodiversity-affirming supports. What this means is I don't try to "fix" or "cure" anyone because neurodivergent people aren't sick or in need of fixing. We are minority neurotypes living in a world that is designed for the neurotypical majority. Instead, I provide tools and resources that empower you to advocate for your child, and for your child to advocate for themselves.
Rather than trying to teach people to fit in to the neuronormative view of who a child "should" be, it is my goal to help you embrace your child's unique gifts, and for them to understand and appreciate how their own brain and body work. I will help you and your child uncover and enhance their strengths, while providing supports for the challenges encountered along the way.
My standard rate is $90 per hour for virtual sessions and $120 per hour for in-person appointments. Services can be arranged on a sliding scale between $70-$120/hr., determined by household income.
Please contact me for further details.
Neurodiversity Manitoba is a fully inclusive organization and I support families of all kinds.
I do not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or any of the myriad wonderful ways that make people and families unique.
If you're newly diagnosed and need some support navigating this unfamiliar territory, I can work with you to implement practical strategies for managing any difficulties you are experiencing. If you're feeling stuck and need some help, I can work with you to develop a plan that fits your neurotype and lifestyle.
